We were fortuned to follow diverging paths.

I saw this initially marketed as “Dune meets Elden Ring but queer” and that hooked me instantly. I should clarify that I’m not intimately familiar with either of these things but I am a fan of them nonetheless. I went into this almost completely blind. I was a big fan of this from the very beginning. The typical early book slog of having world building is missing in this which works in a standalone that’s not 1500 pages long. The relationships in this felt dynamic and sticky. The ‘twist’ had me pumping my fist. The Red Wedding scene at the end had me texting my reading pals ‘what the fuck happened’ at 2 am.
